Felix Nights offers playful evenings for 11 to 14 year olds

In the summer 2020 we launched Felix Nights, a group for older children at the playground. The Felix Road team recognised a need for a slightly different provision for those age 11 to 14 and after lockdown, the group has grown from strength to strength.

The sessions are led by the wonderful Del Hibbert and Mark Watson on Tuesday and Thursday evening after our open afterschool sessions. As well as just hanging out and doing their own thing, individuals have worked on specific projects too.

SCENT UK (Second Chance Entertainment UK) has been working with the young people to produce a series of short interviews with members of the community: Del session leader, Becky our Communications Coordinator, Police Community Officer Hayley, Malcolm X Food Hub and the Life Cycle team.

LifeCycle UK organises cycling games and activities for the sessions and teaches basic bike mechanics skills in our bike workshop container. Young people fix their own bikes and keep our ‘pool’ bikes to borrow running smoothly.

Del gives us an insight into the group and their plans for the future.

“Since opening in the summer, our evening sessions have been well attended by local young people in the community who had little provision previously aimed at their age group in this area. We have also partnered with Bristol Futsal Club who have provided us with a coach once a week to teach new football skills and organise games with our attendees which has proved to be popular. Going forward we are planning a series of graffiti workshops in the new year which will work towards painting a new mural to brighten up our football court, hopefully, the first of many! We will be also delivering art & craft activities and increasing our indoor activities such as music workshops once conditions allow us.”

Felix Nights runs Tuesday and Thursday evenings. It’s not an open session, but if your child is interested in attending speak to one of the Playworkers during an open session. Please check Our Places pages for current opening times.
