Lights, camera, climate action

Starting over the summer holidays and continuing through the autumn and winter of 2024, a group of children and young people from Felix Road Adventure Playground put their heads together with Cat & Mouse Theatre Company to develop a series of three climate adventure films. From the beginning of the filmmaking process, they worked together to develop themes, write scripts, and practice production techniques such as storyboarding.

The project was commissioned as part of Eastside Community Trust’s work on the Community Climate Action Project. The aim of the films was to give younger people from our community a chance to explore topics around climate change while keeping creativity, play, exploration and the freedom to be kids at the heart of the process.

The children brought their ideas, experiences and imagination to develop films about plastic pollution, deforestation and homelessness, with Cat & Mouse bringing them to life with superhero costumes, action montages, green screens and on-location filming.

Premiered on the big screen at Easton Community Centre for a friends and family screening in December the films are now available for all to see on our YouTube channel

This commission is part of a city-wide Community Climate Action project that aims to engage and include a wider diversity of people in the climate conversation. This is one of six community creative commissions being delivered across Bristol. You can find out more about the overall project here
