This summer Cat and Mouse Theatre will join the fun at Felix Road Adventure Playground. Children at the playground will be invited to join the cast, crew and writing team to create three epic adventure films that envisage a sustainable and environmentally friendly future for our community, all developed by kids.
The films will use comedy, action and adventure to show how positive change can take place within our city. By combining theatre and film techniques, Cat and Mouse will help the children express their visions of improving our lives and urban environment by caring for the planet.
Throughout the summer, Cat and Mouse will collaborate with the children at the playground to develop the themes for the films, write the scripts, and teach acting and filming techniques such as storyboarding.
Filming of the action-packed adventure movies will begin in the summer and continue into the autumn. Later in the year, we will be sharing the films at community screenings. We are excited to see what the children and the wonderfully silly and equally talented Cat and Mouse Theatre come up with.
Our goal is for the filmmaking process to engage and empower children to make their voices heard and inspire those in power to take urgent action to address climate change locally. We believe there is a role for everyone to play in climate action, but also believe that space needs to be kept for kids to have the freedom to be kids honouring childhood and play and keeping exploration, creativity and imagination at the heart of climate action. Children should not carry the heavy burden of fixing this world, but they do have a right to help shape the world they will inherit. Everyone involved is mindful of this and will be making the sessions positive and fun.

Come and get involved
There are lots of ways to get involved. Be in front, behind, or to the side of the camera, set designer, make-up artist, or stunt double, there is a role for everyone.
24 July – drama games, 31 July – drama games + script writing, 7 August – script writing, 28 August – script writing + storyboards. Cat and Mouse will be filming scenes on two trips this summer too.*
*subject to change – Cat and Mouse will take their lead from the children that get involved over the holidays the group might change the creative direction of the workshops, but dates will remain.
