Nurturing young creatives at Easton Community Centre

At the heart of Easton Community Centre, something powerful is taking place each week. Young people gathering to create, explore and perform with Threefold Theatre. This vibrant group is more than just a drama club. It’s a creative home where young minds are nurtured, talents are discovered, and confidence is built through the power of performance.

Founded in 2021 by Alice Wrench and Manu Maunganidze, Threefold Theatre offers weekly creative sessions for school years 3 through 12 (Ages 7 – 17). The group has grown into a buzzing hub of activity, using theatre, movement, music and making to help young people tell their stories and realise their ideas.

“Drama is such a powerful tool for young people,” says Alice, Co-founder and Director. “It gives them space to express themselves, to connect with others, and to be heard. Our home at Easton Community Centre gives us the consistency, accessibility and community feel that makes all the difference.”

Why Theatre Matters

Countless studies show that involvement in the arts has a huge impact on young people’s wellbeing and development. Drama builds communication skills, emotional intelligence, self esteem and empathy. These are essential tools both on and off the stage. It also supports teamwork, problem solving and creative thinking. These are qualities that serve young people for life.

At Threefold, the emphasis is not just on performance, but on the process of making and collaborating.

“We’re not here to create polished child stars,” adds Manu, Inclusion Lead at Threefold. “We’re here to support young people to be bold, to take up space, and to explore who they are – creatively, joyfully, and on their own terms.”

At its heart, the group offers a vital antidote to isolation and excessive screen time. By creating space for real-world connection, collaboration, and creative expression, away from the pressures of digital life.

A Welcoming Space at Easton Community Centre

The Centre provides the perfect base for the Threefold community, offering bright, flexible rooms, a friendly café, and accessible facilities for all. Being embedded in the local community also means families can easily drop in, stay for a cuppa, or simply feel connected.

“We love being based here,” says Alice. “Easton Community Centre isn’t just a venue, it’s part of the fabric of what we do. Parents feel comfortable, young people feel at home, and we get to be part of something bigger than just our own sessions.”

Threefold Theatre runs three age-based companies during term time:

  • Company 1 (Ages 7 – 10) – Wednesdays 4 – 5pm

  • Company 2 (Ages 10 – 12) – Wednesdays 5:15 – 6:30pm

  • Company 3 (Ages 13 – 17) – Fridays 5 – 7pm

Performances range from intimate sharings with family at the centre, to larger productions at professional venues such as Bristol Old Vic and at events such as this year’s Bristol Pride.

Importantly, no one is pushed into the spotlight. Whether it’s acting, writing, making costumes, or composing music, every contribution is celebrated. Threefold embraces all art forms with a multidisciplinary spirit, welcoming creativity through making, crafts, photography, animation, and more.

Open to All

Threefold is committed to being inclusive and accessible. Sessions are £40 a month, and free places are available for young people on Pupil Premium or Free School Meals. Each new participant is invited for a free taster session.

Threefold Theatre also offers a vibrant programme of community events that bring members, friends, and families together. From cosy film nights and exciting theatre trips to hands-on experiences and inspiring masterclasses with professional artists and performers, these moments create shared memories, spark new ideas, and strengthen the creative community around the group.

“Everyone is welcome,” says Manu. “Whether they’ve got bags of experience or have never stepped on a stage before, there’s a place for them here.”
