Imagine it’s 2030 and we’re actively tackling climate change. What does your home and neighbourhood look like? How much energy does your home use and where does it come from? Do you share an electric car with your neighbours? Do you have secure bike parking? Can rainwater soak naturally into the ground? Are there flowers, tomato plants and fruit bushes out the front, busy with bees and butterflies? Are you in the same job, or have you retrained? Can you get appliances fixed locally instead of buying more stuff?

Transforming Energy Together
Eastside Community Trust is part of an exciting research project running until October 2025 to work with local residents to progress our climate action plans and identify new investible community energy projects in Easton and Lawrence Hill.
We will be working alongside Knowle West Media Centre and Southmead Development Trust to develop business cases for community-based projects that generate clean energy locally and reduce energy usage in our neighbourhood. The overall aim is to tackle climate change by reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions, but we want to do this in a way that cuts energy bills, improves home comfort, creates new job opportunities for residents, and attracts sustainable investment at a community level.
What we’ve done so far

After conducting a resident survey, interviewing local experts and hosting a series of climate conversations, we are now developing three pilot project ideas:
- Community Electric Vehicle Charging (incl Bicycles)
- Eco Friendly Streets
- Local Retrofit Skills Agency
