Introducing our Community Buildings Toolkit

We are excited to share the launch of our new Community Buildings Toolkit, created through our partnership with Bristol Energy Network, Max Fordham LLP, gcp Architects and Energy Tracers as part of the Community Climate Action work.

Over the past three years, we have been learning by doing at Easton Community Centre. Like many organisations, we have been working to reduce carbon, manage rising energy costs, and keep our spaces welcoming and resilient for our community. It has not always been straightforward.

This toolkit brings together what we have learned along the way, including the successes, the challenges, and the practical steps that made a difference.

It is designed for anyone managing a community building who wants to take action but may not know where to start.

What you will find in the toolkit

    • Practical steps to reduce carbon and energy use

    • Simple tools, templates and checklists to support planning

    • A whole building approach that looks beyond quick fixes

    • Real insights from our experience at Easton Community Centre

    • Honest reflections on the challenges of new technologies

We know first hand that improving buildings can feel complex. Limited budgets, ageing infrastructure, and unfamiliar systems can all get in the way. We have faced these challenges ourselves, particularly when exploring new technologies and trying to make them work in a busy, well used community space.

But we have also seen how small, thoughtful changes can build momentum over time.

This toolkit is about sharing that journey. It is not a one size fits all guide, but a flexible resource to help you take the next step, whatever that looks like for your building.

We hope it supports other community organisations to feel more confident, more informed, and more connected as we all work towards a low carbon future.
